With the diverse employment offerings throughout Northwest Arkansas,
our unemployment rate continues to rate among the lowest in the
nation. While the manufacturing sector has decreased somewhat
over the past few years, strong gains have been made in the
transportation, retail trade, and communications sectors.
The region is home to several Fortune 100 and 500 company's
headquarters, including Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., JB Hunt
Transportation; and Tyson Foods, Inc. Additionally, NWA serves
as headquarters to many other large employers, including George's
Processing; Superior Wheels; Rockline Industries; Bekaert; McKee
Baking; Peterson Industries; and Dayspring, a division of Hallmark
Card's. Over the past few years, the region has welcomed
hundreds of supporting vendors, who have opened offices to service
these company's.
The University of Arkansas is one of the largest employers in the
region, as are the growing local school districts and healthcare
facilities.
